Information TV – Making it happen!

Information TV is an established TV services business, broadcasting on digital satellite (BSkyB and freesat), digital terrestrial (Freeview) and via broadband on the internet. Essentially, we provide access to broadcast television for organisations who wish to reach specific target audiences, whether they are large or small. We incubate new television propositions for niche market segments, which would struggle to start up on a dedicated channel.

With respect to our channels Information TV, Showcase TV® and Showcase 2, we operate in two modes - firstly, so that organisations can communicate directly with those with whom they are interacting; and secondly allowing would-be broadcasters to "start small", by having regularly-scheduled programmes in "MicroChannels", which they control.

Our broadcast licences permit us to allow public bodies, communities and commercial concerns to have editorial control over their sponsored programmes so, through airtime acquisition, they are able to communicate properly with their target audiences.  For the public sector this overcomes the sound-biting or headlining with which mass-audience channels typically treat public information.

As a secondary and complementary activity, we are helping start-up TV operations launch, by providing them slices of our schedule to facilitate proving their concepts and getting on air quickly, at markedly lower costs than would be required for a full-blown broadcast TV channel. These Microchannels can be as small as 30 minutes per week, growing as fast as their business development allows. You will see several examples - entertaining as well as informative - on the schedules.

Although BSkyB has "closed" the SD channel launch list, we are also in a position to facilitate new launches on the Sky EPG, or to help in the transfer of EPG slots between organisations.

Our fourth channel,  (in the "News" genre) is dedicated entirely to Russia Today, bringing news of key events in Russia to the world, as well as covering worldwide events from a Russian perspective - a channel oriented towards a global audience. As well as rolling news, programmes include sport, documentaries and features on science and culture. It originates from TV-Novosti, an autonomous organisation founded by the Russian news and information agency RIA-Novosti. Russia Today is also on FREESAT Channel 406.
